500 grams mutton, cleaned and cut into pieces
2 onions, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1/2 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons cooking oil
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing


Heat oil in a handi or a deep cooking pot over medium heat.

Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté for another minute.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes until the spices are fragrant.

Now, add the cleaned mutton pieces to the pot and mix them well with the masala.

Cook the mutton for 5-7 minutes on medium heat until it changes color.

Add yogurt to the mutton and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add water as needed to cover the mutton pieces. Cover the handi with a lid and let it cook on low heat until the mutton is tender. This might take around 30-40 minutes depending on the quality of the meat.
